A nationwide competition to design landmarks to be placed in iconic locations such as Velana International Airport, Male’ City, underwater locations, and other Maldivian islands outside of the Greater Male’ area has been announced by the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC/Visit Maldives). This innovative project intends to significantly improve the Sunny Side of Life visitor experience while showcasing the Maldives’ distinct charm and local artistic talents.
All Maldivians above the age of 18 are eligible to enter, promoting broad participation. In order to submit designs for monuments that capture the spirit of the Maldives and reflect the rich legacy, culture, and breathtaking natural beauty of that particular region, participants are encouraged to use their creativity and distinct sense of patriotism.
The top 10 designs will be selected by a public vote in addition to a panel of technical judges’ assessments. The competition’s sponsors will provide each winner a gift package in addition to a cash reward of MVR 20,000. Additionally, MMPRC will use and display the top ten designs in its marketing campaigns, giving the designers due credit.
The maximum height for designs should be 20 feet, and they should be made in a sustainable manner. Every landmark should be representative of the island or region for which it is intended, taking into account local customs, historical background, and distinctive features. For the judging panel, creativity, longevity, safety, and aesthetic appeal are important factors.
Entries for the competition must be sent to contest@visitmaldives.com by email by 6:00 PM on 30th November 2024. A single landmark design, with precise measurements provided in both CAD and PDF formats, may be submitted by each participant. A completed application form and a copy of a valid National ID are also necessary for successful entry, as is a visual representation of the suggested location, which is optional. Please direct any additional questions to contest@visitmaldives.com.
Through this historic design competition, Visit Maldives hopes to highlight the Maldives’ abundance of artistic ability. In addition to making the islands more aesthetically pleasing, the winning designs will represent Maldivian ingenuity and cultural legacy, drawing more tourists and enhancing the Sunny Side of Life’s reputation in the international travel market.
